RastPlatz (rest stop) on the Bahnhofstrasse in Zurich
The project “rastPLATZ” was initiated by four graduates of the environmental study at the WWF education center. With the installation comprising a grass sofa, an artificial grass carpet, plants and flowers on the Bahnhofstrasse in Zurich during March 15-17, the graduates have brought awareness to the environmental problem of paving over open space. The wonderful Green spring-like oasis has invited numerous passersby to linger and rest. The project – the dissertation of the team - has received wide attention amidst the Grey of concrete thanks to the lush Green of Tisca’s artificial grass carpet.
The combination of environmental art and sustainability awareness was well received. And, it wasn’t the conveyance of knowledge that took center stage. It was the sensual-aesthetic perception by the public. Instead of knowledge inspiring action it was experience and action that lead to action-oriented knowledge.
