A Few Words about a Milestone Anniversary

This year, Tisca is celebrating its 80th anniversary. The perfect occasion to reflect on the past and think about what the future could look like. A few thoughts that we would like to share with you.

How It All Got Started

It was exactly 80 years ago, in the middle of World War II, that Anton Tischhauser Senior founded our company and began weaving fabric clippings, women’s hosiery, and wool scraps into carpets. The company grew by leaps and bounds: in 1943 he had nearly 100 employees at his hand weaving mill and commissioned in Bühler the first mechanical weaving mill, which manufactured furniture and decorative fabrics.

The employee retirement fund was established in 1945, and the name Tisca was patented in 1947, as marketing had become important. Tisca products received multiple awards and, in the 50s, modern carpets based on the designs of artist Gottfried Honegger were exhibited publicly for the first time.

This was followed by decades of rapid growth. The entire company was consolidated in a newly built factory in Bühler in 1955, which was expanded again and joined by a new office building in 1959. Tisca went international, had around 300 employees in 1963, and in 1965 built one of Europe’s first tufting factories in Urnäsch.

Conquering New Markets with Innovative Solutions and Maintaining Multiple Areas of Expertise

There’s one thing all of our predecessors had in common: they were never satisfied with what they had achieved. They all wanted to surprise customers time and again with better solutions: in addition to meeting existing demand, they were also looking to help shape the markets, applications, and customs. It was important to them to be among the best in several areas of activity and maintain multiple areas of expertise.

Tisca is undoubtedly the only company in the world to produce such an extensive range of flooring, materials, and curtains – not only for the residential and public sectors, but also for a whole host of special applications. Examples include our sports surfaces, tailored interiors for aircraft, trains, and ships, and consistent, comprehensive collections of textiles of all kinds for the interiors of offices, public buildings, hotels, and hospitals.

Tisca now serves four very different markets: living, commercial, transportation, and sports, each of which follows its own rules and has different requirements to fulfill. But in all of these, our customers place their trust in our ability to exploit the opportunities provided by textiles and transform rooms into living spaces.

Our high vertical range of manufacture and an extensive spectrum of manufacturing technologies allow us, time and time again, to expand the function and benefits of our textiles. For example, the Tisca Eco Edition is setting new benchmarks in terms of design variations and value for money; the light curtains of the Silencia collection not only improve room acoustics, but also absorb light and heat. And our soccer turfs are among the first in the world that don’t need to be filled with sand or granules.

The Dawn of a Bright Future

We find ourselves at the dawn of a bright future. While we know much will be different after corona, we’re well prepared: Tisca is a fully independent and self-financed family business without the participation of banks, investors, lenders, or other third parties, which makes us a reliable, future-proof, and trustworthy partner.

We have outstanding employees who are committed, competent, and creative. Our machinery is state of the art and we invest a great deal in research and development, so that we can surprise our customers time and again with attractive products and additional functions.

And in closing, just one more important point: despite all the technical achievements, textiles are still necessary for indoor comfort. We all get involved individually and as a group in the knowledge that we have a responsibility and can make a contribution: to make this world even more attractive and comfortable.
